FLY AWAY FRIDAY : Birmingham Alabama

Most of you who will read this, know that my former life was as a flight attendant, and I hold that as a HUGE part of my life. I found it to be more of a lifestyle rather than just a job of passing out peanuts and picking up trash and going to crazy cities! I will try my best each week to pick out a destination to a place you would probably not ever think to go to, but it holds dear to my heart! Besides everyone needs to get away for awhile, even if it is just in your head! so enjoy.

This week I am taking you to Birmingham Alabama (airport code BHM)

When I was a flight attendant I would always choose my routes based on the locations of the layover, and nine times out of ten, I would pick the trips that had at least one BHM layover! I have come to enjoy this diamond in the rough of a city and would love to live there one day, my husband says otherwise! I have a feeling in a previous life I was a southern belle, but somehow I ended up being a California girl!

What is there to do in Birmingham you ask? I have found that there is quite a bit to do in Birmingham. From the history to incredible food, you will never be at lack for anything fun to do.

I personally have stayed and enjoyed being in the 5 points area of Birmingham, there is much to see and do in this little area, from Climbing up to the Vulcan tower to having a great beer in one of the many fine restaurants to strolling the streets and feeling like you are resident, not just a tourist. If you are looking for a piece of american history please check out the Civil rights museum, it will move you, and give you insight to what life in the south was like back then.

Now on to the good stuff, FOOD! my most favorite restaurant when visiting Birmingham is Dreamland BBQ. www.dreamlandbbq.com I have found this to be the most delicious BBQ anywhere. I have even requested it for my birthday, they do ship their product everywhere...YUMMY! posted below is a picture of my favorite thing at this establishment, white bread and sauce....oh to die for! I must admit though that their Sweet tea (say with southern drawl) and Banana pudding were an absolut must to accompany my meal! I ate there so much and brought all my Crews (pilots and other flight attendants) and started a tradition of everyone going there when they had a long enough layover! I even recruited one of their workers to become a flight attendant! I wonder if she is still flying and thinking of the one crazy day a group of people came in for ribs and gave her a new life!
Well this is all for Birmingham. I hope you all enjoyed a small sliver of what I have to offer on this great town. I hope my husband is reading this and will be taking me there soon! :) or if you flight attendants out there feel my pain for good food, hook a girl up with a buddy pass!

Here is some more information for those of you who may be wanting information on places to visit when deciding on a future vacation destination (don't knock going to an off beat city for vaca! there are great deals to be had plus an adventure!)

Welcome to my home

Welcome to my home
here you will be able to see my adventures in life at home.

I am starting this blog as a way to let others in on the life of a 20 something who goes from flying around the world to becoming a stay at home wife and soon to be mother. I will be posting some of my favorite recipes, some projects I am working on and just general things I find appealing!

I will not be getting political on this blog, it is simply a way to show off what I do at home, so please sit back and enjoy what I have to offer.

In case you were unable to figure it out, Paula Deen is one of my major inspirations in my home! I keep her cookbooks out on my counter and this very picture as well! I will go into more detail about that picture later!
